Creating a Wellness Routine You’ll Fall in Love With
Wellness is more than just physical, wellness is also mental, emotional, spiritual, & professional. It’s your environment and the people you surround yourself with.
Creating a wellness routine could look like meal prepping, a workout, hydrating, self-care, or working on building better relationships.
Having a daily wellness routine in your daily life can provide many benefits to your mind and body. A wellness routine should be supportive, not stressful, so start small. That could be 10 minutes of meditation every morning, which you can do right from your bed! Or adding in more movement throughout the day, so if you have a desk job, set an alarm, and every hour or so, get up and stretch or go for a short walk.
You may not be a morning person, but the way you start the day sets the mood for your entire day. It doesn’t have to mean getting up before the sun, maybe it’s more about waking up and using your time more efficiently. Rather than scrolling on social media or watching tv, take that time to take care of yourself.
And, same goes for sleep, Sleep is a huge part of your health and wellness. Turn off the tv, stop scrolling on your phone, give your eyes a break from the screens at least 30 minutes to an hour before bed, and maybe take some time to meditate. There are many free apps, like insight timer, you can find me on there, that offer tons of sleeping meditations.
A wellness routine is about creating positive habits. This happens over time and with practice.
Your wellness is a journey. Endlessly changing and evolving with you and your life. So let your routine evolve with you!
What are your 2023 goal?
Have you heard of SMART Goals?
SMART is an acronym that stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-based.
- Your goal needs to be specific to stick with! Be as clear and specific as possible with what you want to achieve. The more narrow your goal, the more you’ll understand the steps necessary to achieve it.
- For Example, ” I plan to work-out 4 days a week (M-Th) at the local gym” is better than, “I want to workout more”
- What evidence will prove you’re making progress toward your goal?
- If your goal is, “I want to eat more vegetables,” How much is “More?” Instead choose a goal like “I will fill my plate two-thirds full of vegetables every dinner.”
- Have you set an achievable goal?
- “I want to lose 25lbs this month,” is not achievable. So come up with a more achievable goal, “I want to lose 5lbs this month.”
- When setting goals for yourself, consider whether they align with your existing values and life goals/plans.
- Ask yourself why the goal is important to you, how achieving it will help you and how it will contribute toward your long-term goals.
- What is your goal time frame? You need some mile markers along the way!
- An end-date can help provide motivation and help you prioritize
With SMART goals, you’re more likely to achieve your goal efficiently and effectively because they are very specific.
My 7 Tips for Creating a Wellness Routine You’ll Fall in Love With
1. Try Something New!
Maybe that’s hot yoga, or maybe it’s going to a group fitness class, give it a try for a few weeks, you might instantly fall in love with the practice, or after a few classes, maybe you find it’s not the right fit for you, so just give something else a try.
2. Find movement of any kind!
A walk out in nature is a great activity to get the body moving, while also being the perfect stress reliever! A great boost to your physical and mental health. Find something you like to do, that doesn’t seem like a chore, and try to keep it to a similar time daily! Maybe that’s taking your pup for a hike or going for a walk in the nearby park. I recommend aiming for 30 minutes a day! Find something that you genuinely enjoy going to, and just know you might not feel like going all the time, we’re not all perfect, but you will never regret how you feel after moving your body!
3. Schedule your routine!
We often stick to a routine if it’s scheduled, and it helps our family know that this time is set aside for us! So mark it on your calendar or put it on your fridge!! Schedule that time in!
4. Slow down and Give Yourself Some Quiet Time
A great way to reduce stress and boost your mood is to slow down, rest when you need to, and give yourself peace, and quiet! 10 minutes a day of meditation, or if you love reading, set aside time for reading or journaling! Again, wellness is not always physical! Wellness is different for everyone!
5. Creating a morning routine
Your morning mood can affect your entire DAY! So, pick a realistic wake-up time that is going to work for you, maybe your morning routine consists of waking up and setting an intention for the day, making a healthy breakfast to fuel your day, reading, or finding movement of some sort. Your morning routine is what works best for you, so maybe that’s just 15 minutes a day, and that’s absolutely perfect!
6. Fuel your body with goodness!
Food is so IMPORTANT!!! Fueling your body with good wholesome food will help your mood, reduce stress, maintain a healthy weight, increase your energy, and boost your immunity!! Try sticking to whole foods, like veggies, fruit, & meat, and less processed foods! And cook at home, meal prep, try to lessen time spent eating out for meals!
7. Get enough sleep!!
Sleep is an essential part of your well-being! So as I said above! Give yourself time away from electronics, AT LEAST 30 minutes before bed, turn off the tv and put your phone away!
