Grounding Yourself in Nature: The Healing Benefits of Earthing

Grounding Yourself in Nature

The Earth is like a giant battery, natural, electrical energy that comes from the ground.

Grounding, also known as earthing, is one of the most powerful and simplest things you can do to improve your health.

What is Grounding?

Have you heard of grounding or earthing?

Grounding is the direct contact of our skin, like being barefoot, and touching the surface of the earth.

The earth has millions of free radicals, so when our skin touches the earth, those electrons flow between the earth and our energetic bodies.

When we are electrically grounded, we feel:

  • Balanced
  • Centered
  • Strong
  • Less stressed or tense

Where has Grounding Gone?

Remember running around the yard barefoot? Or walking the beach? There is something about the soles of your feet touching the earth that is just so relaxing.

We as humans have slowly been disconnected from Earthing.

In our modern society, we no longer sleep on the ground or walk barefoot everywhere we go, as our ancestors did.

Wherever we go, we’re always in shoes, when is the last time your bare feet have touched the surface of the earth?

Our ancestors were grounded 24/7, so, the more you get grounded the better. 30 minutes is the minimum amount of time recommended to be grounded each day!

How Can I be More Grounded?

There are lots of ways to stay grounded.

A simple way is to just go outside after work. Kick your shoes off, and walk around the yard barefoot. Feel the grass, sand, soil, rocks, plants, bodies of water.

Gardening is also a great way to stay grounded. Skip the gloves and let your skin touch the soil, plants, seeds, etc. I am often barefoot when I garden too!

Another option is to use grounding tools! I personally wear my Earth Runners EVERYWHERE! I walk a lot, so having a comfortable shoe, that also allows me to be grounded is amazing!

Earth Runners were created to rewild our lives in response to the typical modern domesticated lifestyle, which is causing numerous health, psychological and social issues. Through rewilding, we aim to bring stronger, healthier, and more resilient individuals and communities back to our society.

In congruence with ancestral wisdom, it’s apparent that we need to incorporate more simple nature-based lifestyle practices and outsource less of our life to modern technology. With our earth-connected sandals, we aspire to restore our relationship with nature and to rediscover our primal roots. “

Grounding mats are great too! We have them all over our house and at the office. So you can always be grounded, when you’re working, watching T.V, reading a book, sleeping, even while doing yoga from your yoga space!

It is not always possible to be outdoors barefoot every day, especially if you live in NY, unless you love cold therapy, like my husband!

You can think about Earthing products as extension cords that connect you to the ground outside.

How Earth Runners work

Earth Runners
  • Featuring two parallel stitches of conductive stainless steel thread up the entire length of the lace and secured to the bottom of the sandal with a copper plug to keep you grounded.
  • The foot’s contact with the stainless steel thread on the bottom of the lace allows for efficient electron flow between the skin and the earth via the conductive thread – copper plug circuit.

What are the Benefits of Grounding?

  • It can help relieve inflammation
  • It can reduce stress levels
  • It can improve circulation
  • Decreases pain
  • Improves cortisol rhythm
  • Improves Sleep

Reconnect with the Earth

Research on grounding for your health is still relatively new. Our Ancestors went barefoot or wore leather footwear made from animal hides that allowed them to be grounded.

We have lost our electrical roots, and we’re disconnected. This disconnection may be an unnoticed cause of human pain and distress and the steeply rising occurrence of chronic illness throughout the world.

Think about this, and try it out! Go barefoot for at least a half-hour and see what you notice. If you are unable to go barefoot outside due to weather, then think about a Grounding Mat or Earthing Shoes! See how you feel, and let me know in the comments!
